Daniel Negreanu: Poker's Living Legend

There are a select few people out there who can be instantly matched to their profession simply by hearing their name. Michael Jordan played basketball. Dale Earnhardt was a NASCAR driver. The same goes for poker superstar, Daniel Negreanu. Daniel is one of the most celebrated and accomplished poker players in the history of the game. He is the games highest earning live poker player and has countless bracelets and accolades, and still continues to rake.

Daniel was born in 1974 in Toronto, Ontario to Russian emigrants hoping to start a new life in the United States. At the age of four, Negreanu promised his mother than he would someday be rich. Turns out, his promise came true; and it was quite the understatement.

The future poker star started gambling at the age of 15, when he was first introduced to poker. Within a year, he was spending all of his time in pool halls and betting arenas betting on sports, hustling, and playing cards. Poker began to consume his life as began playing for a living shortly after dropping out of high school. He played local charity poker events and scouted for illegal games around Toronto to build his bankroll.

When Negreanu finally built up a respectable bankroll, he moved to Las Vegas at the age of 22 to complete his dream of becoming a professional poker player. Rather quickly, however, he turned over his bankroll to the players of Las Vegas. Realizing he was not quite prepared, he moved back to Toronto to rebuild his bankroll. Once again, he moved back to Las Vegas, where he still resides today as not only a professional poker player, but one of the greatest poker players in history.

Negreanu has won four World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets and two World Poker Tour (WPT) titles. He has made the final table at WSOP events an incredible 27 times and the final table at WPT events 8 times. Between the two tours, he has cashed an unbelievable 70 times. Including these two prestigious tours, Negreanu has won a total of 36 careers titles and cashed in 193. His career winnings exceed 16 million dollars, and he is showing no signs of stopping.

Aside from live tournament and cash poker games, Negreanu is also an accomplished online poker player. He has even created his own online poker card room, Full Contact Poker, where he played under the screen name “KidPoker”. Here he attempted to select a protégé that he hoped to mold into a world-class poker player. He eventually selected two protégés, neither of which reached Negreanu’s success. After Black Friday, a national shutdown of the three major online poker sites, Negreanu moved back to Canada to play online poker.

Negreanu is one of the most accomplished poker players in history, as seen by his many tournament titles, career earnings, and recognition. He has been named the WSOP Player of the Year, Card Player of the Year, and WPT Player of the Year.
